From Veterinary Care to Happy Trails: Katie at Sarah’s Pet Services

For 18 years, Katie cared for animals as a Certified Veterinary Technician (CVT). While she loved veterinary nursing, she eventually stepped away from the emotional demands of clinical work to focus on a more joyful side of animal care

Today, with Sarah’s Pet Services, Katie spends her days walking, hiking, and boarding dogs, helping them live happy, active lives. She describes herself as a retired veterinary professional who now gets to see dogs at their very best, while also building meaningful relationships with clients and their beloved pets..

Katie has lived in Western Massachusetts her whole life and now resides on her family’s 45-acre farm with her husband and son. Surrounded by open space and nature, it’s the perfect setting for pack hikes and in-home boarding, giving dogs a peaceful “home away from home” to explore and relax.

One of her favorite parts of the job is seeing dogs eagerly waiting for her, tails wagging, eyes bright, ready for their next adventure. She loves the connection she builds with each dog and owner, and takes pride in giving families peace of mind while they’re away.

Of all her hiking memories, one stands out: a determined dog who spent an entire summer digging a cooling hole at their regular break spot in the woods—then proudly used it every hike. “Smart girl,” Katie laughs.

Above all, Katie is grateful for the trust of her clients and the joy of working with their wonderful pets. Whether on the trail or at her farm by the Mill River, she finds fulfillment in creating a safe, happy, and loving experience for every dog in her care.
